Creo is PTC's parametric modeller, historically strong in automotive and industrial-equipment design, with generative design, real-time simulation and dedicated tooling/mould-design modules that go deeper than what SolidWorks or Inventor offer out of the box. It is a common second CAD skill for engineers whose main job already involves finite-element analysis or mould design.
PTC leans harder into free access for learners than most enterprise vendors: alongside standard trials, there is a dedicated Creo Education free edition and a Creo University free edition, both aimed specifically at students rather than time-limited demos.
Choose Creo if your target industry is automotive, heavy equipment, or plastics and tooling, where its simulation and mould-design depth is the actual reason companies license it.
Against SolidWorks and Inventor, Creo's case is depth in specific disciplines — simulation and tooling design — rather than breadth: teams pick it because their work already involves finite-element analysis or mould design, not as a general-purpose alternative to the two more common packages.
