Siemens NX was renamed Designcenter in June 2026, but the software behind the new name is the same integrated CAD/CAM/CAE platform long used in aerospace and automotive manufacturing, where design, machining and engineering analysis need to stay in one data model instead of passing files between separate programs.

Like CATIA, it operates at a scale and price point built for organisations, not individuals, though Siemens does offer a 30-day trial and a browser-based Essentials trial for evaluation.

Worth recognising by both names — NX and Designcenter — since job listings and older course material may still use the previous one.

Like CATIA, it competes at an organisational scale rather than against the individual or small-team tools on this list; the closer comparison is between the two of them, and the practical difference for most engineers is which vendor's wider ecosystem — Dassault's or Siemens' — their employer has already standardised on.
